Ally's Column of Randomness: Julyness of Life

Hey everyone! It's been a while since I've posted, and I'm sorry! Lots has happened though.

I had just finished being an aide for a Chinese summer program called Hip Wah! I was an aide for Hip Wah 2, or HWII. My boss was non other than my dad, and my co-aide was my friend.

Now, let me explain something. Each group of kids is a zodiac animal, like the rats, oxen, tigers, etc. There are seven classes, including HWII and HWIII. Each one is for a grade level. For example, this year, the Dragons class is going to sixth grade this year. So in Hip Wah, they will be in HWII. Each class is different. For example, in HWII, you cook, eat, watch movies, help make a magazine, and trace art. And in HWIII, you go visit different places where Asians work, and learn more about jobs. It's really fun!

Besides your regular class, you have calligraphy and brush painting for 1-5 graders, OCA (lion dancing and kung fu) for 1-5, and Instrumental music for 4-7, and vocal music for 1-3. And recess of course!

The experience was a thrill, I've got to admit! All of my kids were sweet, and awesome, though some were a little on the hyper side, but still. They were cool, and if I come back next year, I'll miss having that class.

But OH we made deliciousness! We made mandarin orange salad with caramelized almonds, almond and vanilla jello, cha siu chow fun, designer teem gok, pagoda fruit crisps, foil wrapped chicken, shrimp tofu, fried wonton, bow ties, and shrimp chips. All were delicious :) if you want any of these recipes, email me at ask414@yahoo.com, and post a comment, and I'll give you the recipe of how we made it! Remember, you're in charge of putting how much you want in there, and the recipe is like a guideline! Enjoy, and hopefully I'll post another column later!

Ally's Column of Randomness-4/15/11-"Crazy Roller Coaster Week"

Crazy Roller Coaster Week:

Hey everyone! On April 8, my symphonic band went to Six Flags to perform near the Dolphin Fountain! We played after their grand entrance to opening the park, and our audience left us. But it wasn't our best performance too, so it didn't matter if there were people.

Next, we go to ride the rides! I have never been on any of the Six Flags' rides, so I was game for any ones. Our first one was the Cobra. It was okay, but see, I scream A LOT on roller coasters, no matter how big or small they are. After wards, some of my friends went on the Vertical Velocity. I didn't want to go on it. Then we went on Medusa! It was so scary, freaky, and awesome! Once I got on, I told my friend, "This was a bad choice!" I didn't like the part when we did all the loops! I was screaming and closing my eyes for most of the time too. Then came Kong! It was just like Medusa! Except not as extreme! It was totally crazy!

Finally, we had food! I got purple cotton candy (have you ever seen purple cotton candy?) and had some waffle fries; one had chili and cheese, and the other one had bacon and ranch dressing and cheese. Afterwards, I watched my friends go back on Medusa, and with some other people I went on the Cobra over and over again. It was a pretty good day!

The rides were so exciting and fun! Like yesterday which was my thirteenth birthday! I can't believe that I'm a teenager! But it doesn't feel anything different. So yesterday, I sadly had to go to school, and then I came home. I had mud pie ice cream while watching Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Sadly it stopped on me, so I watched Castle, the episode called Food to Die For. Then Auntie Donna, Auntie Debbie, and Grandma came over, and we all went to Sushi 29 on Solano Avenue! We had a lot of sushi! We had Dragon maki, the California maki, Rock'n'roll maki, Wasachi maki, S & M maki, Salmon Reunion maki, and Rainbow maki. They were all good! Then for dessert we had strawberry and mango tempura mochi. All of it was good! Then afterwards we all ate the lemon meringue pie that my mom and I made from my grandpa's recipe. And then we got to watch my baby videos that my Grandpa and my aunties filmed. It was also an awesome day just like the Six Flags day! I hope you all have a great Easter day and break (if you have it)!

Ally's Column of Randomness: The Return of Ally!

Hey everyone! It's Ally! Wow, I haven't written a column in such a long time! I've missed it a lot!

A lot has happen over the past couple of months. My science fair project for school was in the District Science fair and I got third place! It was about seeing if kidney beans would grow better with Sprite or Prune Juice. So I'm moving on to the Bay Area one! It's kinda cool, but science isn't my kind of subject. I'm more into like art, band, and sometimes math and english.

Speaking of art, you should see Nathanael Fong's comic strip of Ninjas! (coming soon) It's really good and you'll enjoy it a lot! Nathanael has a whole ton of GREAT artwork! He likes to draw like superheroes, cars, and well ninjas now! His art work is super duper awesome! Maybe we can ask him about showing some of his art off on our artwork!

Hey, have you heard Josh's solo that he and his jazz band did at Yoshi's? You can hear Josh's solo and the saxs' solo at:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XCuCAXNJsA&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Hope you enjoy that!

Well I'm getting tired, so I will wrap this column up. Email me atjandakocompany@yahoo.com or comment if you have any questions, concerns, or comments! Thanks!

Where Have We Gone?

Yes, the last time you heard from us was our Christmas Sing-Along on December 19. So what has happened since then? Well, it wouldn't be any fun to just say what happened, now, would it? So tune in the next two weeks, as we release some new articles on what's been going on and a brand new podcast. Thanks for checking on our website! We will try our best to update at least once a week. Zai jian!
